How have your own experiences shaped your understanding of inclusiveness, especially concerning women?
Coming from a culturally diverse background and having lived in various cities across India and Sydney, I've encountered different perspectives on gender roles. Observing women navigate challenges in both academic and professional settings has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of inclusiveness. I've learned that it extends beyond gender to embrace all dimensions of diversity. My journey has fostered a deep appreciation for the richness that diverse perspectives bring to any endeavor.
Can you share a moment when you felt empowered by a supportive community of women?
Empowerment, for me, begins at home. My mother and sister have been a constant source of support, uplifting me daily. They are my cheerleaders and pillars of strength, always there to boost my spirits or offer a listening ear.
How can we create a safe and supportive environment for women to express their ideas and concerns?
Encourage questions as well as fostering an atmosphere where answers are accepted without undue criticism. Understanding and empathising with their perspectives contribute to a supportive space where women feel comfortable sharing their thoughts.
Why is it important to have diverse representation of women in media, leadership roles, and public spheres?
Some women face challenges expressing their concerns due to societal expectations, unfair criticism based on body types, weight, skin color, marital status, and motherhood responsibilities which can lead to insecurities and psychological distress. To counter this, showcasing women from all backgrounds in influential roles is crucial. Seeing relatable figures in powerful positions empowers individuals and fosters a more inclusive and supportive environment.
What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about joining data analytics?
Data is a transformative force shaping our world. Understanding and interpreting data are key skills for collective growth. If you're contemplating a journey into data analytics, seize the opportunity now. Your unique perspective and skills can contribute significantly to the evolving landscape, empowering you and others to flourish together.
